First In 2 Years, South Korea & North Korea Will Hold Military Meetings

Two rivals, South Korea (ROK) and North Korea (North Korea) will hold military talks on Thursday, September 30 tomorrow. That would be the first military meeting between the two Koreas in the past two years.

South Korean Defense Ministry official as quoted by news agency Reuters on Wednesday (09/29/2010) says, the talks will be held at the truce village of Panmunjom. Last military talks between North and South Korea took place in October 2008.

North Korean government first proposed the talks two weeks ago. North Korea wants to talk about border issues, including measures to prevent conflict in the sea along the Yellow Sea border.

The government then responded by saying Seoul for talks focusing on North Korea's role in the events of South Korean warship sank recently.

Two previously arguing that Korea followed allegations Seoul that the North launched a torpedo attack to the South Korean warship in March. The attacks killed 46 South Korean sailors. North Korean government strongly denied the accusation.

But recent tensions began to thaw. Evidently, the South Korean government sends rice aid to flood-stricken North Korea. Help rice was the first time in three years. Both countries have also agreed to resume reunions of families separated due to the Korean War 1950-1953.
