HOW TO ACCESS BLOCKED SITES

Many jobs and schools/countries block access to certain sites. However, it is very difficult for anybody to block access to

google. By using google with either of these two methods, you can gain access to blocked sites very easily.

Blocked web site, huh? Need a proxy?

I am not a big fan of chasing free, open proxies all over the place. I use google instead. Here I describe what I believe is an

uncommon way for bypassing blocked sites using google.

1:
The first and most common way of using google to bypass blocked sites is just to search for the site and then clicked the

"cached" link that appears on google. Easy, simple, and frequently works for static information.

2:
Passing the site through google translator works well as well. Here's the URL to use: Code:
[b]www.google.com/translate?langpair=en|en&u=www.blockedsite.com
[/b]

(where blockedsite.com is the site that you wish to visit)

This translates the site from english to english and works because the ip address will appear as google instead of you. Here's

a link to tech-recipes passed through the translator as an example. You can actually do this with any langpair. Change en|en

in the URL above to spanish by using es|es and it still works.

3:Unique method that I have not seen described before is to search through google mobile. Google mobile will "convert as you

go" very similiar to the translation method above.

Just search for your site with google mobile and click on the link it provides. Here's is tech-recipes brought up through google

mobile search. Once again, this will allow you to bypass any blocks because the IP request comes from google not for you.

Like the translation method above, google will continue to "proxy" as you continue to visit links through the site. The only side

effect of this method is that google formats the site for a mobile device.

MySpace wins $234 million award in spam case

‘Spam king’ among defendants federal judge rules against

The popular online hangout MySpace has won a $234 million judgment over junk messages sent to its members in what is believed to be the largest anti-spam award ever, The Associated Press has learned.

A federal judge ruled against two of the Internet's most prominent spam defendants, Sanford Wallace and Walter Rines, after the two failed to show up at a court hearing.

Wallace has earned the nicknames "Spamford" and "spam king" for his past role as head of a company that sent as many as 30 million junk e-mails a day in the 1990s.

"MySpace has zero tolerance for those who attempt to act illegally on our site," said MySpace's chief security officer, Hemanshu Nigam. "We remain committed to punishing those who violate the law and try to harm our members."

Rines and Wallace worked in concert to create their own MySpace accounts or take over existing ones by stealing passwords, Nigam said.

They then e-mailed other MySpace members, he said, "asking them to check out a cool video or another cool site. When you go there, they were making money trying to sell you something or making money based on hits or trying to sell ring tones."

MySpace said the pair sent 735,925 messages to MySpace members. Under the 2003 federal anti-spam law known as CAN-SPAM, each violation entitles MySpace to $100 in damages, tripled when conducted "willfully and knowingly."

It is a big victory for MySpace, although service providers often have a tough time collecting such awards. But even if the News Corp.-owned site never collects, it hopes the judgment will deter other spammers.

"Anybody who's been thinking about engaging in spam are going to say, 'Wow, I better not go there,'" Nigam said. "Spammers don't want to be prosecuted. They are there to make money. It's our job to send a message to stop them."

The Los Angeles-based company described the amount of the award as a "landmark."

John Levine, a board member for the anti-spam advocacy group Coalition Against Unsolicited Commercial Email, said that past spam judgments he knows of have been in the tens of millions of dollars.

He said he would be surprised, though, if MySpace ever collected.

"The giant judgments are all defaults, which means they don't necessarily even know how to find the spammer," Levine said.

There was no telephone listing for Wallace in the Las Vegas area, where he is last known to live. Service was disconnected for two listed numbers for Rines in Stratham, New Hampshire, his last known address; a third number was unlisted.

U.S. District Judge Audrey B. Collins in Los Angeles awarded $157.4 million jointly against Rines and Wallace and an additional $63.4 million against Rines under CAN-SPAM — plus $1.5 million more against the pair under California's anti-phishing law.

MySpace has another anti-spam case pending against a high-profile defendant, Scott Richter, who it claims gained access to MySpace profiles using stolen passwords and then sent spam bulletins from those accounts.

MySpace said the junk messages from Wallace and Rines came after Richter's.

MySpace said it has since implemented features warning members when they're about to follow links that take them to sites outside MySpace.

Help arrives by air, foot for China quake victims

[b]Official death toll rises to 15,000, but nearly 40,000 still buried or missing[/b]

HANWANG, China - Military helicopters dropped food and medicine to Chinese earthquake survivors who remained cut off Wednesday in remote mountain villages behind roads clogged by landslides, while the official death toll rose to nearly 15,000.

The official Xinhua News Agency said Wednesday that nearly 26,000 people were still buried under debris and another 14,000 people remain missing. Those figures are in addition to the official death toll, the Xinhua said.

As help began to arrive in some of the hardest-to-reach areas, some victims trapped for more than two days under collapsed buildings were still being pulled out alive. But the enormous scale of the devastation meant that resources were stretched thin, and makeshift aid stations and refugee centers were springing up over the disaster area the size of Maryland.

The official Xinhua News Agency quoted government officials as saying rescuers who hiked Wednesday into the city of Yingxiu in Wenchuan county — the epicenter of Monday's magnitude 7.9 quake — found it "much worse than expected."

The survivors "desperately needed medical help, food and water," Xinhua said.

The official death toll rose Wednesday to 14,866, Xinhua said, but it was not immediately clear if that number included the some 7,700 reported dead in Yingxiu.

The toll was expected to rise further once rescuers reach other towns in Wenchuan that remain cut off from the Sichuan provincial capital of Chengdu more than two days after the quake. Roads leading to Wenchuan from all directions were still being cleared of debris, Feng Zhenglin, deputy minister of railway and transportation, said in Beijing.

The death toll for Mianyang city was also confirmed at 5,430, up from 3,629, on Wednesday, Xinhua said.

178 schoolchildren confirmed dead
At a middle school Sichuan province's Qingchuan county where students were taking a noon nap when the quake demolished a three-story building, 178 children were confirmed dead in the rubble and another 23 remained missing, Xinhua said.

Storms that had prevented flights to some of the worst-hit areas finally cleared on Wednesday. Military helicopters were seen flying north over Dujiangyan, and Xinhua said two of them airdropped food, drinking water and medicine to Yingxiu.

Trains were on their way to Sichuan carrying quilts, drinking water, tents and military personnel, Ministry of Railways spokesman Wong Yongping said. All railways in the province were working except for a line where a 40-car freight train was trapped by a landslide in a tunnel and burned, he said.

Survivors pulled from rubble
Rescuers raced to save people trapped under flattened buildings.

A 34-year-old woman who was eight months pregnant was rescued after spending 50 hours under debris in Dujiangyan.

In the Beichuan region, a 3-year-old girl who was trapped for more than 40 hours under the bodies of her parents was pulled to safety, Xinhua said.

Rescuers found Song Xinyi on Tuesday morning, but were unable to pull her out right away due to fears the debris above her would collapse. She was fed and shielded from the rain until rescuers extricated her from the rubble

Premier Wen Jiabao looked over her wounds, part of his highly publicized tour of the disaster area aimed at reassuring the public about the government's response and to show the world that the country is ready to host the Beijing Olympics in August.

Nokia to equip more cell phones with GPS

Nokia plans to add navigation to half of the phones it sells within a few years to find new revenue streams amid decreasing handset prices, a senior official at the world's top cellphone maker said.

Michael Halbherr, the head of Nokia's location-based activities, told Reuters he remains comfortable with Nokia's year-old goal for seeing up to 50 percent of its phones equipped with global positioning system chips in 2010 to 2012.

"We are planning to ship 35 million GPS units this year," Halbherr said, adding "and many more location-enabled phones that use cell-towers to orient themselves on the map."

"You will see few 'E' or 'N' Series phones without GPS," he said.

Last year Nokia sold 437 million phones, and it expects the volume to grow more than 10 percent this year. It sold 38 million phones in its multimedia range "N Series" and some 7 million "E Series" business phones.

GPS chips use orbiting satellites to pinpoint the whereabouts of a phone user, thereby enabling a host of location-based services. SiRF Technology Holdings Inc. is the world's largest maker of GPS chips.

Last October, when unveiling an $8.1 billion offer for U.S. based digital map supplier Navteq, Nokia said it would have tens of navigation-enabled phones on the market by end-2008.

It sells five models with built-in GPS and has unveiled four more which will ship in the coming months.

Halbherr said his company's GPS phone strategy goes far beyond the phones themselves.

It's part of a comprehensive strategy to make location-enabled, context-aware phones available across its product line, he said

'Location will ultimately be in every device'
Beyond phones specially equipped with location-finding technology, all Nokia phones stand to benefit as GPS phone users move about and effectively update Nokia Maps in real time for other phone users.

"Location will ultimately be in every device," Halbherr declared, not just the half of phones with special GPS chips.

In addition to GPS chips, Nokia's strategy involves pushing Wi-Fi enabled devices that use local wireless network antennas to achieve more or less the same location-awareness in these devices. Even phones without GPS or Wi-Fi can use local cellphone towers to identify their position on maps, he noted.

Nokia Maps, first introduced in early 2006, will come out with a version 2.0 for phones worldwide later this month.

Halbherr mocks the current rush by Internet companies such as Google, Yahoo and Microsoft to deliver all their services as centralized, Web-based services over the network, rather than using the growing powers of the device in users' hands.
